hose pipe ban 2026
On the 11th July, 2026 Anglian Water introduced a hose pipe ban, temporary use ban. This prevents the general public from using a hose pipe with a few exceptions. Anglian Water are the main supplier for water where we are based in Spilsby, Lincolnshire.
This restriction has been introduced due to the recent extreme hot weather and with little rainfall occuring during the summer months. July 2026 has now been confirmed as the 2nd hottest and the driest on record.
Anglian Water have produced numerous videos on social media to try to educate the general public. However as with the majority of social media these days it contain lots of false information. The latest video shows a lady called Laura, who apparently looks after Anglian waters long term planning. After a brief introduction she states ‘ we did see some rainfall over winter but it wasn’t enough’. Corporations such as Anglian Water should be held accountable for all of the facts delivered during these videos. I live in Lincolnshire and work outside so I know this is complete nonsense. A simple goggle search can demonstrate this… extract taken from goggle –
‘Lincolnshire recorded more than double its average rainfall in late autumn (November), and combined with a record-shattering wet January 2026 (172% of average), the wider Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire area experienced its wettest November-to-January period on record’
So according to Laura, 172% average is not enough. It rained constantly for well over 3 months! no let up yet this wasn’t enough!
The reason we are in this position is water companies such as Anglian Water have simply failed to invest in their infrastructure for generations. For over 30 years Anglian Water haven’t built any new reservoirs. They are now planning for two more reservoirs to be built, but these wont be in operational until 2040!
For years Anglian Water have diverted profits to their shareholders and not invested it to protect the general public from droughts. They continue to pay top executives huge slaries, their CEO Mark Thurston is on £1.9 million! How on earth can that salary be justified!
Anglian Water lose 185 to 192 million litres of water per day through leaks in its pipe network. While this represents around 9% of the total water they put into supply. How strange they have now announced the hose pipe ban restriction has saved … guess the amount … yes 9%. Really the chances of that lol.
From the moment this hose pipe ban was announced our domestic pressure washing enquiries dropped. Probably due to the biased media coverage, making the public unaware that businesses that rely on water can continue to operate. As a company we have been hit financially, yet Anglian Water have introduced this ban but have not been penalised financially, how on earth is that fair or just.
Social media is now full of individuals complaining about small businesses using water such as car washes. Unfortunately the general public need to open their eyes. Global corporations based in this country such as Pepsi, coca cola use huge amounts of water to produce soft drinks! Small businesses use a tiny fraction of water compared to these huge companies. Any further restrictions need to be targeted at these giants and small businesses need protection. All of these small companies which rely on water to operate support other companies via their operations, local mechanics, machine suppliers, chemical suppliers, accountants, insurers the list is endless. Closing these down will have an effect across the economy it will take time but it will happen.
I am fortunate to be at the age where I am getting closer to retirement, however other individuals in this sector are less fortunate, these are the people I feel sorry for. All of this has been brought on them by the ineptitude of these Water companies, shameful
